Here is a simple question, does the noise sound like a whinning noise???? If so have you check your power steering fluid??? Because ford Power steering pumps will whine if they are low on fluid. But to anwser your question, you can take the power steering pump off and you can replace the whole rack.

Youve over looked the most important question, is there a blower under the hood

Power stearing is prolly low on fluids, top it up and go from there. It only gets bad when it start screaching and everyone in the parking lot notices it.

Hahaha I was going to say the exact same thing. But unless you're having stiffness problems with the steering, then chances are its not low on fluid. Every Stang up till 98 makes power steering noise. It's something we've come to terms with.

actually, the power steering whine is quite common on Ford vehicles.

My old man has had lots of Ford cars and trucks mostly late 80's and early to mid 90's and each and every one had it....it's nothing to worry about....but check your fluid level just in-case.
