After years of loose collaboration—a PR appearance here, a few SEMA customs there—gearhead and hip-hop DJ Funkmaster Flex and the Ford Motor Company have finally consummated their marriage with this, the Ford Expedition Funkmaster Flex Edition.

The Flex Edition Expedition (say that a few times fast) is based on the short-wheelbase Expedition Limited, and differs from that model in cosmetics alone, which means a 300-hp, 24-valve 5.4-liter iron-block V-8; a six-speed automatic transmission; and the choice of rear- or all-wheel drive. Outside, however the Flexification is extensive, and includes a body kit, black-and-red two-tone paint, special badges, and 20-inch wheels. (Only twenties? This thing is going to get laughed out of the ’hood—even the new Foose Edition F-150 has deuce-deuces, fercrissakes.) The interior gets red contrast stitching; red trim for the center console, shifter, and doors, and Funkmaster Flex logos on the headrests.

More important than this particular vehicle, though, is the news the customized Expedition heralds the beginning of a broader partnership between Funkmaster Flex and Ford, and the relationship will eventually spawn a fully Flexed-out Mustang.

As Flex said while in Dearborn Friday, he knows what’s going on in the street, with kids, and he’s injecting that into specialty vehicles for Ford.

Ford will begin shipping the first Flex Expeditions to dealers this fall. The special edition is a limited-run, but execs aren’t talking specific numbers at this point. As ever, demand will dictate. The automaker wants to rake in as much of the $35 billion in aftermarket business as possible, and hopes the spin from the hip-hip DJ will pay off.

I am not a fan of funkmaster. He's always been a bit rude when i've met him at shows.

So, i will skip on his special edition truck
